World's Oldest Married Couple Celebrate Eightieth Wedding Anniversary At Ages 105 and 106.

A Texas couple recently celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary. The husband and wife met in class at The University of Texas in 1934, where John was a guard for the football team, while Charlotte was taking classes to become a teacher.

John Henderson,106 and his wife Charlotte, 105, of Austin, have officially been recognized as the oldest living couple in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. The assisted-living community threw the husband and wife a small party to celebrate their amazing relationship.

John picked up Charlotte in a 1920's Roadster, just as he did on their very first date together, along with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Friends and family toasted the couple for being together for eight decades. A slideshow was also played to shower everyone with the couple's beautiful memories.

The couple has no children of their own and therefore no grandchildren or great-grandchildren as might be expected by a couple of such an age. Maybe that counts as one of the many reasons for their longevity. Jason Free helped his great-uncle and great-aunt become officially recognized by Guinness World Records in November as the world's oldest living couple.  "They are a wonderful couple, and an example of a very happy couple - glad to be around each other, travel together, and live life," Jason told KXAN.

"They'll tell you stories of the past, but they don't dwell on the past," he added. A fellow resident at the home Jim Bissett said, "They're just gracious, nice, kind people. They're the salt of the earth."

The pair married during the Great Depression on December 22nd, 1939, months after the start of World War II.

When asked about the secret of a long life and happy marriage, John said, "Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse."

The 106-year-old is now the oldest living University of Texas football player and makes sure to attend at least one game every year, a tradition he's maintained for 84 years. The motivated man also told that he made sure he exercised every day.

The couple will officially mark their 80 years of wedded bliss on December 22nd while John will celebrate his 107th birthday on Christmas Eve.
