When your body goes through an unimaginable amount of strain and pressure, there's a slight chance that it could affect your memory. One woman in China lost nearly ten years of memories after she went through a high-pressure situation: she pooped her memories out!
Okay, look, we know how confusing that may seem, but allow us to explain the story. According to the China Press, a man posted a story about how his mother lost memories of the last ten years of her life after taking a rather intense poop following a prolonged period of constipation.
The mystery woman's son wrote that his mother was feeling rather uncomfortable after being unable to go to the loo. After two weeks of experiencing discomfort, the woman was finally able to relieve herself. But when she emerged from the toilet, there was something rather off about her.
To her family's surprise, the woman had forgotten what had happened in her life for the past 10 years! They immediately rushed her to the hospital where doctors determined that her brain functioning was normal and that there was nothing to be worried about. Her 'shitty' memory loss thankfully lasted only eight hours, and she was back to normal after that!
But neurosurgeon Dr. Peng Jiaxiong explained that the momentary lapse of memory is medically known as 'transient global amnesia', which is caused by an obstruction of the jugular vein, which results in compromised blood flow, which in turn reduces the oxygen flow to the brain.
So essentially, when the woman went to relieve herself, she ended up putting so much pressure that it caused an increase in intracerebral pressure. The sudden rise increased the chances of the jugular vein getting blocked, which is probably what happened to the mystery woman!
If this reminds us of anything, it is that we need to eat a good, balanced diet, or we'll end up downloading memories!
