In this world of social media, strange things happen. Sometimes stories that are years old get viral and no one knows the reason behind it. Back in 2001, the story of a woman named Jodee Berry got viral. Jodee used to work as a waitress in a restaurant named Hooters in Florida. The restaurant held a contest among its workers for best beer sales and whoever won the contest would get a chance to a brand new Toyota corolla.
Berry completed the challenge and won it too. Now ready to be presented with her big gift, Berry was instead presented with a toy baby Yoda.
Furious by the scam, Berry quitted her job and sued the restaurant in return. The manager at the time claimed it was only an April fool's joke. However, a year later Berry and Gulf Coast Wings, Inc., the corporate owner of the restaurant, ended up with a settlement at court.
Berry sued the restaurant and cited breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation and walked out with an undisclosed sum of money in her pockets.
Berry's lawyer David Noll, her attorney, was quoted on saying that the amount of money the woman received would allow Jodee to “pick out whatever type of Toyota she wants.”
