Adam Lawrence, a cat lover from London, shared an adorable photo of himself with his friend’s cat, “Doggy”, then shared the image in a cat-enthusiast group on Facebook. The post got more than 6,500 likes and 150 comments, caught the eye of many a cat lady, including one Anna Hosey.
Adam Lawrence, 28, shared an image of himself posing with the pet cat of his mate, who got 6,500 likes and more than 150 comments, one of which was a major praise from a fellow animal lover living in America.
The stranger obviously thought the cat and the human were both 'cute,' and commented on the photo to say so.
Adam, a graduate of graphic design from London, then contacted 25-year-old Anna Hosey, and for several weeks, the two were talking regularly.
Adam agreed to take the plunge and booked a flight to see her in person after a fortnight of FaceTime calls, which was an especially risky decision, considering that it meant travelling to Chicago in the United States.
Fortunately, the entire thing went so well that Anna was already hoping to repay the favor by flying herself across the pond.
"Adam said after returning home to the United Kingdom on December 15," I never thought I would be the kind of guy who would travel 4,000 miles to meet someone I knew on Facebook, but I don't regret it at all.
"It was the first time I ever posted in the group but I have always loved cats and when I saw my friend's fluffy cat I couldn't resist.
"Anna commented, saying, 'Both very very cute,' and after viewing her profile, I thought, 'I'll just send her a message.'
"We went on to speak every day on Facebook and we really got on.
"After two weeks, she suggested I go to visit her in the States.
"I don't think she believed I would, so I did as I thought, 'What have I got to lose?'
"I thought, 'If it goes wrong, at least I am ticking another country off the list.'
"Thankfully I had the best time and it was like we had known each other forever.
"I can't wait to show Anna all the sights that make London, London."
In reality, the pair 'hit it off' immediately - so much so that Anna has since booked her first foreign trip in February to London.
Anna, a hairdresser, said: "When I initially proposed the idea of him coming to Chicago, I hoped he would, but I didn't believe he would.
"But then he showed me the itinerary, I was like, 'Oh, it's happening,' and then every phone call was so exciting because we were counting down the days.
"I was a little bit wary but I was willing to take the small risk and I am so glad I did because we had the best time.
"The whole thing has been surreal but amazing - it wasn't awkward at all when I picked him up from the airport.
"I felt nervous on the way but as soon as he got in the car they disappeared; it is crazy how we are so in tune with each other.
"We both love cats, music and an adventure!
"He met my friends, parents and most importantly my cat, Kidden and they all loved him.
"My friends were shocked that I have found someone who is as talkative and spontaneous like me.
"I don't believe it will fizzle out because it has already been two months, and we have never not had anything to say."
