On his official YouTube channel, Will Smith unveiled the trailer, triggering great enthusiasm and even greater nostalgia among fans.
Will Smith, 52, shed a few tears and exchanged some laughs in the trailer for the HBO Max reunion with his Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air costars, which he posted on social media on Friday. The release date will take place on November 19th.
Fans knew the 90-minute special on HBO Max would air during Thanksgiving, but they're now seeing it a week before the US holiday.
The special was shot in September for what was the show's 30th premiere anniversary.
Smith posted a photo of himself in the Banks living room with co-stars Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Reid and DJ Jazzy Jeff while he was on Instagram at the time.
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times last month, Marcell – who played English butler Geoffrey in the classic sitcom – revealed it ‘felt so good to be back’:
We hadn’t seen each other in person for at least four years, and it was magical. When we performed the show back in those days, we were all green, newbies to the television scene. Now we are all older and — not to give myself airs and graces — it was like the Berlin philharmonic coming back together.
And to see all the babies as adults and parents; it was magical. The producers had to keep telling us to stop talking and get back to work.
He continued, ‘We talked about our experiences, our relationships, our hopes and fears during that period, even our hatreds — and there were some. But it felt so good to be back.’
Notably, Janet Hubert, who originally played Aunt Viv before leaving the show in 1993, will make an appearance in this scripted reunion.
She and Smith are said to have had their disagreements in the past, but now they seem to have set aside their feud.
The synopsis for the upcoming reunion reads:
30 years later, we’re bringing the Banks family back together! Join Will and Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro and DJ Jazzy Jeff, for a funny and heartfelt night full of music and dancing in honor of the show that ran for six seasons and 148 episodes.
Unfortunately, the cast, with beloved Uncle Phil actor James Avery having passed away in 2013, would of course be missing the patriarch of the Banks family.
You can stream the reunion from November 19 on HBO Max.
