Single foster dad who himself lived in a foster home knows pain of being separated from family and siblings. He has been fostering three brothers since December 2018, but discovered that they had been separated from their two sisters. So he decided to ensure they wouldn't be separated again.
Life in foster homes away from your parents and siblings must be quite lonely and testing. Children who have been in those circumstances can relate and feel exactly what it takes to go through it at all times. But this doesn't mean foster parents are bad and they don't treat you good. This only means that you are already suffering and need extra care and attention.
Carter from Hamilton County, Ohio went into the foster care system when he was 12 and as a result, spent years away from some of his younger siblings.
He felt quite bad at that point and wanted his whole family back and together. But due to his mother's unemployment all of them were separated and given into foster care.
When he was old enough to be emancipated, he was granted custody of his younger sister and guardianship of his younger brother whom he raised singlehandedly and happily.
Then in October 2020, he wanted to adopt the sisters too so that they feel complete and a feeling of being lost and apart from their siblings never hurt them. He was granted the custody of all five, Marionna, Makayla, Robert, Giovanni, and Kiontae.
The siblings are now very happy and satisfied with him too. Although the eldest of them all wasn't happy at first as she was a bit protective of her siblings, but Carter says now when she appreciated him separately he was overwhelmed.
The JFS adoption and foster care was also happy to see the single dad do such an adorable thing. They said,
“Mr. Carter was the only foster parent willing and able to adopt all of the children. His childhood background has made him aware of the importance of keeping siblings together."
However Carter says that he enjoys being their father and that parenting them is easier than he could have ever imagined! His life is busy, with a lot of love, laughter and loudness!I have enjoyed working with him and witnessing the children bond as siblings.”
