In a productive thread on Twitter, a scientist came forward to share her story of being called cute and unprofessional by an engineer on LinkedIn and how the woman received hate messages for posting about it with the public!
Some habits die hard. Even though we now live in times where women wear whatever they please to wear but the judgmental comments still exist and are often difficult to ignore. Women if sporting a bold look at work, they will be labeled as "unprofessional." If they wear casual clothes at work then they will be labelled "underdressed" by society.
Environmental scientist Joleah Lamb took to Twitter to have an open discussion regarding women’s dress in the scientific community, she certainly got some eye-opening responses.
Among these stories the one that got everyone's attention was an exchange between Stephanie E. Suarez and an engineer from Chevron. LinkedIn is considered as a professional site for job seekers but unfortunately, some people treat it as a dating site, trying to hit on women and pass on unsolicited advice. Suarez received a message on Linkedln. When Suarez rejected the move, she got hit by cheap insults and was criticized for her appearance and compared to a “waiter of Midtown.”
