August, a beautiful golden retriever, just celebrated her 20th birthday and became the world’s oldest dog.
On average, dogs live for around 10 to 12 years. However, breed, genetics, and lifestyle play a very important role in how long a pupper lives.
Every now and then, we hear a golden retriever celebrating its later teen years, however, very rarely a dog reaches its 20s.
August, an adorable Golden retriever, just celebrated her 20th birthday.
The lovely pupper has lost color on her face and paws due to age.
As far as anyone can tell, Augie is the oldest golden retriever in the world and possibly the only one ever to have reached the age of 20. Since there aren’t any others in the record.
She was born on April 24, 2000.
She celebrated with her siblings and a dog-friendly carrot cake.
Pictures of her birthday were recently shared the GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue on their Facebook page. They are the ones who finally found then-14-year-old Augie her forever home.
The pictures were shared with a caption,
“It’s official. Let it be known that Golden Retriever, “August”, is the oldest known, oldest living Golden Retriever! She turned 20 years old on April 24, 2020. Augie, as she is affectionately called, lives in Oakland, Tennessee with Jennifer and Steve who gave her a furever home at age 14.”
Here’s to hoping the not-so-little Augie has a long and healthy life ahead.
