Man Was Suffering From Severe Seizures Since 2007, Doctors Discovered That A Tapeworm Is Living Inside His Head Eating His Brain For The Past 15 Years

The Chinese man was suffering from frequent seizures and blackouts, doctors discovered that a tapeworm is living inside his head for the past 15-years and eating his brain slowly. He went through a two-hour-long risky surgery to remove the tapeworm from inside his head, now he is recovering from it.

Mr. Wang, from the city of Guangzhou in the south-eastern Chinese, was suffering from frequent seizures and blackouts and had been seeing multiple specialists. In 2018, doctors finally diagnosed the problem and discovered a tapeworm inside his head that had been slowly eating his brain for the past 15 years. He was advised to undergo non-surgical treatment as the parasite was considered to be in a risky area to operate on. He underwent a two-hour-long surgery at Guangdong Sanjiu Brain Hospital, the surgery was very risky but luckily it was successful. The tapeworm named Sparganum mansoni parasite was removed from his head and now Mr. Wang is recovering from the surgery.

The tapeworm was living in his brain for 15 years, doctors had to remove all of it very carefully otherwise it could grow again. It's not the first case in that hospital,  it has treated four patients this year. Mr. Wang is now recovering from the surgery.
