Madame Tussauds is set to unveil a life-size wax figure statue of Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris will become the first vice president to be immortalized in the famous museum. The museum has released a few photographs of the work in progress which is expected to be completed later this year.
Kamala Harris will become the first vice president to be memorialized in New York's famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, which will unveil her likeness and that of President Joe Biden later this year.
Harris, who is the first woman vice president, as well as the first Black person and first person of Asian descent to hold the office, has been replicated into a wax figure at Madame Tussauds New York — a first for a U.S. vice president.
According to a CNN report, the museum, located in Times Square, has released a few photographs of the work in progress.
Both Harris and Joe Biden's wax figures will be created with the outfits they each wore on their historic Inauguration Day in January.
According to the museum, the wax statues will be unveiled later this year, and each will be displayed in the museum's "Oval Office experience" which is home to figures of former Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and others.
The clay heads took weeks for a team of London artists to sculpt, the museum said on Facebook. The museum estimates the bodies will take about four to six months to complete.
Principal sculptor David Burks said in a video: "This will be my third president I've sculpted for Madame Tussauds.
I'm hugely honored to be sculpting Kamala Harris," sculptor Vicky Grant said in a video shared on Twitter.
"I feel like the most important features of Kamala Harris to get right are not only her lovely, warm and welcoming smile but also her eyes," Grant said, "because I feel like she's so engaging when she smiles. She actually smiles with her eyes as well."
Clothing for Hrris’ figure was designed by Christopher John Rogers, the same designer who dressed Harris for her swearing-in ceremony. Harris' wax figure will wear a replica of the purple blazer and dress worn on Inauguration Day. Harris' gold and pearl necklace, pearl earrings, bracelets, and rings will also be replicated to complete the look.
"The look created for the figure is a replica of the blazer and dress worn by Vice President Harris on Inauguration Day for her indoor appearance and swearing-in of the senators," the release says. "Her gold and pearl necklace, pearl earrings, bracelets, and rings will also be replicated to complete the authentic look."
