Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow received major backlash after claiming she started the face mask trend.

The contagion star Gwyneth Paltrow, in a recent interview, claimed that she was the one who started the facemask trend. As a result of her statement, the netizens took to twitter to bash her.

The pandemic has been very tough on us all. From being locked in our houses to having to deal with all the mental stress that came with it. Hence, it is something that most of us are touchy about. This is what sparked the controversy with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Recently, she made a statement for which she was ridiculed on social media after. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Paltrow said that she started the "face mask" trend prior to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic.

In the interview, she was asked about one of her old posts on Instagram where she was wearing a mask. The post was captioned,

“En route to Paris. Paranoid? Prudent? Panicked? Placid? Pandemic? Propaganda? Paltrow’s just going to go ahead and sleep with this thing on the plane. I’ve already been in this movie. Stay safe. Don’t shake hands. Wash hands frequently.”

She outraged a number of social media users when she appeared to take credit for the current pandemic-driven ubiquity of face-coverings, stating:

“It's a familiar pattern in my life. I do something early, everyone is like: 'What is she doing? She’s crazy.' And then it’s adopted by culture.”

After her statement, netizens took to Twitter to bash her. One of the users wrote,

“i'm wearing a mask! i'm so ~weird and random~, but such is the life of a trendsetter.”

While another laconically wrote,

“Glad she thinks a pandemic is funny.”

A third critic chimed in:

"Gwyneth, Asians wear mask around the world before February, since the 90s. It’s our culture. Also yoga is our culture too, you goop."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote:

"Gwyneth Paltrow engineered the Coronavirus. It's a Goop conspiracy."

Netizens were infuriated. Another person tweeted,

"Imagine thinking that people are wearing masks to be like Gwyneth rather than to prevent the spread of a deadly disease. The f***ing hubris."

Paltrow herself contracted COVID early on Last year. Hence, a remark like this was not expected out of her.
