A new optical illusion on Twitter has people mistaking a car door for the beach.

A new optical illusion is going viral on Twitter, and it has the internet perplexed. At first glance, it appears to be a photograph of the beach at night or maybe during a storm. In fact, it's a car door that needs to be fixed.

If there's one thing we know that can divide people on the internet, it's an optical illusion.

Whether it's a dress that nobody can decide is blue and black or white and gold, or a picture of a man who appears to be wearing heels, people love to debate what a brain-teasing snap really shows.

One of the optical illusions that's hurting our brains, confounding our eyes, and had gone viral on Twitter all comes down to a car door.

A TikTok user going by the handle @hecticnick took to social media to share a video of an optical illusion which turned out to be pretty contentious.

The video in question shows the TikToker showing an image of a mysterious gray shape, stating: "This picture is not what you think it is."

"You’re probably seeing an ocean with the beach in front of it, right? Well, in reality, what it actually is is the bottom of a car door that’s damaged with the ground underneath it."

Take a closer look and you will see that the picture does indeed show the bottom of a car door, and not a beach during a stormy evening.

However, even after watching the video all the way through, there were still plenty of other TikTok users who couldn't agree on what the image actually shows.

The picture originally appeared on Twitter and Reddit back in 2019, but as you can clearly see, it continues to divide opinion just as much now as it did back then.
